RK Home Connection: Story 019a: The Tabernacle

Today we delved deeper and learned about The Tabernacle. The Biggest Storybook Curriculum does not have a lesson on The Tabernacle. It’s important that we as Christians understand this physical space that God commanded the Israelites to build for him. It’s has many symbols that point to Jesus and our need for God. How can we understand the importance of the curtain ripping in half in the Holy of Holies when Jesus died, if we don’t learn about the Tabernacle?

Big Truth: God dwells or tabernacles among us through the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Lesson Verse: The word became flesh and dwelt among us. John 1:1.

Monthly Bible Memory Verse: This curriculum has a Bible Memory verse every week. We’ve found that kids are going to learn the verse at a deeper level if they learn 1 per month at Redeemer Kids. (Feel free to learn one a week! Kids are certainly able to do this, but it takes time.)

Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go. JOSHUA 1:9

This song is great for learning the memory verse.

Engage: We watched this video on the Tabernacle. It would be great to watch it again together and talk about the Tabernacle. Also, spend some time memorizing the monthly Bible verse together.

EPHESIANS (4TH AND 5TH GRADE)

This week we finished Ephesians 2.

Some ideas for engaging at home:

  • Ephesians 2:11 talks about circumcision. In class, we explained this as “a cut on skin that means God has marked you as his. Kind of like wearing a wedding ring and everyone knows you are married.” If YOU want more information on how to explain circumcision, check out this video by Foundation Worldview Curriculum. (She has some good points, but kind of takes longer to get to them. 13 minutes)

  • Ask your kids what a cornerstone is. If they don’t know, check out this 5 minute video. (We watched a 1 minute different video in class.) Then take turns saying what a cornerstone is in your own words. Now, what does that mean for Jesus and his church? How does that apply?

  • Listen to all of Ephesians or read it together.
