ONLINE SERVICE

Sunday, MaY 17th

Sermon Series Title.png

Our Online Sunday Service is a way for us to gather together at the same time but in different locations throughout Whatcom county and the globe (hello and welcome to our missionary families!).

We invite you to share your experiences by using the hashtag: #RedeemerNWFamily on your social media platform of choice. This will help us interact with one another as a family on Facebook and Instagram. If you don’t have or use social media and want to share your images/videos, please email them to dane@redeemernw.org.

Opening Prayer

~Pray out loud. If gathered with others you could take turns or pray all together~

(A prayer from Scotty Smith)

Dear heavenly Father,

Thank you for the calling, privilege, and importance of worshiping together on the Lord’s Day. Because it’s a calling, we dare not dismiss it easily, or take it lightly. Because it’s you we get to meet with, may we come prepared, expectant, and evermore grateful.

According to the Scriptures, our gatherings will become increasingly important, as the Day of Jesus’ return grows closer and closer. Help us to take corporate worship more seriously, and engage more whole-heartedly than ever.

Father, may we, as your beloved children, give you, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit the worship of which you are alone worthy. Feed our minds with your Word; fill our hearts with your grace; empower our worship by your Spirit. May we gather, not as selfish consumers, looking to be pleased; but as true worshipers, longing to be consumed with your glory and grace…

Father, through our corporate worship, we pray you will be blessed, revealed, and magnified; and that we will be humbled, gladdened and transformed. As we lift Jesus up, we trust you to take us low and draw the nations in.

So very Amen we pray, in Jesus’ loving and worship-worthy name.

Sing – “Rejoice”

*Closed captioning (CC) is available

Verse 1
Come and stand before your Maker
Full of wonder, full of fear
Come behold His power and glory
Yet with confidence draw near
For the one who holds the heavens
And commands the stars above
Is the God who bends to bless us
With an unrelenting love

Chorus
Rejoice
Come and lift your hands and raise your voice
He is worthy of all praise
Rejoice
Sing of mercies of your King
And with trembling
Rejoice

Verse 2
We are children of the promise
The beloved of the Lord
Won with everlasting kindness
Bought with sacrificial blood
Bringing reconciliation
To a world that longs to know
The affections of a Father
Who will never let them go

Verse 3
All our sickness, all our sorrows
Jesus carried up the hill
He has walked this path before us
He is walking with us still
Turning tragedy to triumph
Turning agony to praise
There is blessing in the battle
So take heart and stand amazed

Chorus 2
Rejoice
When you cry to Him He hears your voice
He will wipe away your tears
Rejoice
In the midst of suffering
He will help you sing

Online Sermon - Full Of Sympathy

Hebrews 4:14-16

Sing - “Tis So Sweet To Trust in Jesus“

*Closed captioning (CC) is available

Verse 3
Oh, how sweet to trust in Jesus,
Just to trust His cleansing blood
And in simple faith to plunge me
'Neath the healing, cleansing flood!

Verse 4
Yes, 'tis sweet to trust in Jesus,
Just from sin and self to cease
Just from Jesus simply taking
Life and rest, and joy and peace.

Verse 1
'Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus,
Just to take Him at His Word
Just to rest upon His promise,
Just to know, "Thus saith the Lord!"

Verse 2
I'm so glad I learned to trust Him,
Precious Jesus, Savior, Friend
And I know that He is with me,
Will be with me to the end.

Refrain
Jesus, Jesus, how I trust Him!
How I've proved Him o'er and o'er
Jesus, Jesus, precious Jesus!
Oh, for grace to trust Him more!

Communion

~Those who trust Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior receive communion~

Every week we remember and retell the Gospel by receiving communion. The bread represents Jesus’ body given for us. The juice represents the blood He shed for our redemption.

Sin needs forgiveness. Temptations need rescue. Jesus offers us both. As you prepare to receive communion confess your need for Jesus to save and ask Jesus to deliver. Let this time be a tangible way of “holding fast to your confession” and with confidence, boldly, honestly approaching God’s throne of grace.

As you receive communion, consider repeating the words, “Jesus save and Jesus rescues. Thanks be to God for His mercy and grace.”

Giving

~An opportunity to worship God with our finances~

In response to God giving us Jesus, we give. This is a wonderful and important part of our worship. Take this time as an opportunity to thank God for your daily bread. Take time to connect your giving to what God is doing in and through the church community. Our hearts follow our treasure; may God use your giving to fuel your worship of Jesus.

While we are not publicly gathering, this link will give you three options to give.

Sing – “Way Maker“

*Closed captioning (CC) is available

Verse 1
You are here, moving in our midst
I worship You, I worship You
You are here, working in this place
I worship You, I worship You
You are here, moving in our midst
I worship You, I worship You
You are here, working in this place
I worship You, I worship You

Chorus
You are
Way maker, miracle worker, promise keeper
Light in the darkness
My God, that is who You are
You are
Way maker, miracle worker, promise keeper
Light in the darkness
My God, that is who You are

Verse 2
You are here, touching every heart
I worship You, I worship You
You are here, healing every heart
Healing every heart
Oh, I worship You
Jesus, I worship You
You're turning lives around
You are here, oh, turning lives around
I worship You, I worship You
You mended every heart
You are here, and You are mending every heart
I worship You, I worship You

Tag
Oh, that is who You are
And that is who You are
Oh, and that is who You are
That is who You are

Bridge
Even when I don't see it, You're working
Even when I don't feel it, You're working
You never stop, You never stop working
You never stop, You never stop working

Vamp
So I'll stand
With arms high and heart abandoned
In awe of the One who gave it all
So I'll stand
My soul Lord to You surrendered
All I am is Yours

Closing Prayer

~Feel free to use the following prayer or pray however you are led~

Dear Father,

Today, we run to your throne of grace acutely aware of our need for mercy and help. We are pressed on every side by temptations and trials of various kinds. Thank you for Jesus, our great high priest, who is able to sympathize with the very real challenge to honor your will and word with our lives. We find comfort that Jesus was tempted in every way as we are. He knows what it’s like to be human. He doesn’t minimize the struggle or roll His eyes at us as we battle for godliness. He offers help. You offer help.

We find comfort that Jesus was tempted in every way as we are and yet without sin. Our greatest assurance is not what we do, or how well we live, but what Jesus has done. We have confidence to come to You because of His perfect righteousness not our right living. Thank you that Jesus as our high priest offers rescue from temptation. And thank you that Jesus as our high priest, provides forgiveness when we turn temptations to sin.

In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

Benediction

~The word benediction literally means “good (bene) speaking (dictio).” Close your service by speaking a good word to one another~

Jesus knows that being human is hard. And He is always willing to help.

Cookies & Coffee

~Have a cookie (especially all you little ones!) and engage in fellowship at a distance~

On Sunday we would typically walk over to the Commons after the service for cookies, coffee, and fellowship together. We miss that time!

While we are meeting online and encouraging social distancing to keep our community safe, let’s engage in fellowship from a distance. We encourage you to do a “social hour” with your friends from church by texting or calling them. Let’s stay connected!

Reflection / Sermon Application

~Feel free to do this now or after the service, and/or throughout the week~

Take a few minutes to reflect on the sermon. Consider how you might apply this lesson to your life in practical ways. We encourage you to engage with your family or call/text a friend from Redeemer to discuss the sermon application questions below:

  • What was the role of the high priest?

  • How is Jesus the ultimate high priest?

  • What is the difference between temptation and sin?

  • Why is it such good news Jesus was tempted in every way as we are and yet without sin?

  • What does it look like practically to draw near to God’s throne of grace for help?
