Better Together - Sermon Series Template_Sermon Series Title.png

Our Online Sunday Service is a way for us to gather together at the same time but in different locations throughout Whatcom county and the globe (hello and welcome to our missionary families!).

We invite you to share your experiences by using the hashtag: #RedeemerNWFamily on your social media platform of choice. This will help us interact with one another as a family on Facebook and Instagram. If you don’t have or use social media and want to share your images/videos, please email them to dane@redeemernw.org.

Call to Worship

(A reading from Nehemiah 9.5-6)

Stand up and praise the LORD your God, who is from everlasting to everlasting.

Blessed be your glorious name, and may it be exalted above all blessing and praise.

 You alone are the LORD.

You made the heavens, even the highest heavens, and all their starry host, the earth and all that is on it, the seas and all that is in them.

You give life to everything, and the multitudes of heaven worship you.

Sing – “Goodness of God”

*Closed captioning (CC) is available

Verse 1
I love You, Lord
For Your mercy never failed me
All my days, I've been held in Your hands
From the moment that I wake up
Until I lay my head
Oh, I will sing of the goodness of God

Chorus
And all my life You have been faithful
And all my life You have been so, so good
With every breath that I am able
Oh, I will sing of the goodness of God

Verse 2
I love Your voice
You have led me through the fire
And in darkest night You are close like no other
I've known You as a Father
I've known You as a Friend
And I have lived in the goodness of God

Bridge
Your goodness is running after,
it's running after me
Your goodness is running after,
it's running after me
With my life laid down, I'm surrendered now
I give You everything
Your goodness is running after,
it's running after me

OUR GOD AND FATHER

Ephesians 4.6

Sing - “How Deep the Father’s Love“

*Closed captioning (CC) is available

Verse 3
I will not boast in anything
No gifts, no power, no wisdom
But I will boast in Jesus Christ
His death and resurrection

Why should I gain from His reward?
I cannot give an answer
But this I know with all my heart
His wounds have paid my ransom

Outro
Why should I gain from His reward?
I cannot give an answer
But this I know with all my heart
His wounds have paid my ransom

Verse 1
How deep the Father's love for us
How vast beyond all measure
That He should give His only Son
To make a wretch His treasure

How great the pain of searing loss
The Father turns His face away
As wounds which mar the Chosen One
Bring many sons to glory

Verse 2
Behold the man upon a cross
My sin upon His shoulders
Ashamed, I hear my mocking voice
Call out among the scoffers

It was my sin that held Him there
Until it was accomplished
His dying breath has brought me life
I know that it is finished

Communion

~Those who trust Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior receive communion~

Every week we remember and retell the Gospel by receiving communion. The bread represents Jesus’ body given for us. The juice represents the blood He shed for our redemption.

Communion, among many things, is the re-telling of God’s rescue story in bringing us back to himself by adopting us into his family. In fact, God turned his back on Jesus on the cross, so we could be adopted in. God dumped the punishment on His Son, so that we could be called sons and daughters of His. Communion is a re-telling of what Jesus did to make us sons and daughters of our heavenly Father.

As you receive communion consider using these words, “God thank you for being our God and Father.”

Giving

~An opportunity to worship God with our finances~

In response to God giving us Jesus, we give. This is a wonderful and important part of our worship. Take this time as an opportunity to thank God for your daily bread. Take time to connect your giving to what God is doing in and through the church community. Our hearts follow our treasure; may God use your giving to fuel your worship of Jesus.

While we are not publicly gathering, this link will give you three options to give.

Closing Prayer

(Prayer is derived from Scotty Smith’s Prayer Blog)

Heavenly Father, we are grateful for your “God-ness,” sovereignty, and inviolate reign. You are the entire alphabet of providence—from A to Z—with no missing letters. This doesn’t make you a dispassionate robot; but our righteous and ruling Father.

You have no chronology of getting better at being God, for you are eternally perfect. The past holds no regrets or “Oops” for you; the present, no befuddlement or sweat; and the future is pregnant with every good thing you have planned for us in Christ.

There’s no “field testing,” or “trial and error” with you; there’s just Jesus and triumph. This is awesomely encouraging and humbling Father, with no small measure of mystery thrown in. Thank you for not catering to our fancies, giving into our whining, or sharing your throne with us—even for a nanosecond.

In our most Gospel-sane moments, we trust you with everything we have and are—even though we get frustrated with your timing, and sometimes question what you’re up to.

Father, you will “make everything beautiful in its time” (Eccl. 3:11). And, in time, you will make “all things new” (Rev. 21:5). You are God. The Gospel is true. And Jesus is coming back. It is enough, Father. So very Amen we pray, in Jesus’ triumphant and tender name.

Benediction

~The word benediction literally means “good (bene) speaking (dictio).” Close your service by speaking a good word to one another~

Our God is our Father and our Father is our God, and that is great news.

Cookies & Coffee

~Have a cookie (especially all you little ones!) and engage in fellowship at a distance~

On Sunday we would typically walk over to the Commons after the service for cookies, coffee, and fellowship together. We miss that time!

While we are meeting online and encouraging social distancing to keep our community safe, let’s engage in fellowship from a distance. We encourage you to do a “social hour” with your friends from church by texting or calling them. Let’s stay connected!

Reflection / Sermon Application

~Feel free to do this now or after the service, and/or throughout the week~

Take a few minutes to reflect on the sermon. Consider how you might apply this lesson to your life in practical ways. We encourage you to engage with your family or call/text a friend from Redeemer to discuss the sermon application questions below:

  • What do you think about the God-ness of God?

  • What do you think about the Father-ness of God?

  • How does the God-ness of God and the Father-ness of God give us a complete picture of who He is.

  • How does having one God and Father promote unity?
