Sermon Series Title.png

Our Online Sunday Service is a way for us to gather together at the same time but in different locations throughout Whatcom county and the globe (hello and welcome to our missionary families!).

We invite you to share your experiences by using the hashtag: #RedeemerNWFamily on your social media platform of choice. This will help us interact with one another as a family on Facebook and Instagram. If you don’t have or use social media and want to share your images/videos, please email them to dane@redeemernw.org.

Opening Prayer

~Pray out loud. If gathered with others you could take turns or pray all together~

(A slightly modified prayer from Scotty Smith based on Psalm 118.1-4)

Heavenly Father,

Though we’re all wondering when we’ll get back to our old “normal” and be done with every vestige of this virus, there’s one aspect of our lives we’re most thankful will never change or end.

On this day, we join the loud, triumphant, grateful declaration of Psalm 118: “Your love, O Lord, endures forever.” Hallelujah!

The surest, stable, dependable, and inexhaustible reality in our lives is your love, Abba Father. We could’ve never deserved it or earned it, and now we can never reduce it or lose it.

In terms of the quantity of your love, we live under the Niagara Falls of your affection, flowing out of the bottomless ocean of your grace. In terms of its reliability, your love is more on time than the rising sun, Swiss Trains, and monthly bills.

In terms of its quality, you love each of your children as much as you love Jesus, for you have made his righteousness ours and hidden our lives in his. In terms of endurability, you will cease to be God before you will stop loving your children.

Father, you give, and you take away. You fill our lives with good things, and you grace our lives with difficult things. You are nearer than our next breath, yet sometimes you seem very far away. And in all of it, in every last bit of the raptures and ruptures of life, your love endures forever, never waivers, and will get us safely Home. Thank you.

So very Amen we pray, in Jesus’ strong and loving name.

Sing – “Come Thou Fount”

*Closed captioning (CC) is available

Verse 1
Come, Thou Fount of every blessing
Tune my heart to sing Thy grace
Streams of mercy, never ceasing
Call for songs of loudest praise
Teach me some melodious sonnet
Sung by flaming tongues above
Praise the mount, I'm fixed upon it
Mount of Thy redeeming love

Verse 2
Here I raise my Ebenezer
Here there by Thy great help I've come
And I hope, by Thy good pleasure
Safely to arrive at home
Jesus sought me when a stranger
Wandering from the fold of God
He, to rescue me from danger
Interposed His precious blood

Verse 3
Oh, to grace how great a debtor
Daily I'm constrained to be
Let that goodness like a fetter
Bind my wandering heart to Thee
Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it
Prone to leave the God I love
Here's my heart, oh, take and seal it
Seal it for Thy courts above

Tag
Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it
Prone to leave the God I love
Here's my heart, oh, take and seal it
Seal it for Thy courts above

Here's my heart, oh, take and seal it
Seal it for Thy courts above

Online Sermon - Moved With Pity

Mark 1:40-42

Sing - “Nothing but the Blood“

*Closed captioning (CC) is available

Verse 3
Nothing can for sin atone,
Nothing but the blood of Jesus;
Naught of good that I have done,
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.

Verse 4
This is all my hope and peace,
Nothing but the blood of Jesus;
This is all my righteousness,
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.

Verse 1
What can wash away my sin?
Nothing but the blood of Jesus;
What can make me whole again?
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.

Verse 2
For my pardon, this I see,
Nothing but the blood of Jesus;
For my cleansing this my plea,
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.

Refrain
Oh! precious is the flow
That makes me white as snow;
No other fount I know,
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.

Communion

~Those who trust Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior receive communion~

Every week we remember and retell the Gospel by receiving communion. The bread represents Jesus’ body given for us. The juice represents the blood He shed for our redemption.

As you prepare to receive the bread and juice ask yourself these questions: “What can wash away my sin? What can make me whole again? Where can I find pardon? Where can I find cleansing?” Where is all my hope and peace? Where is all my righteousness?”

As you receive communion, consider repeating the words, “Nothing but the blood of Jesus.”

Giving

~An opportunity to worship God with our finances~

In response to God giving us Jesus, we give. This is a wonderful and important part of our worship. Take this time as an opportunity to thank God for your daily bread. Take time to connect your giving to what God is doing in and through the church community. Our hearts follow our treasure; may God use your giving to fuel your worship of Jesus.

While we are not publicly gathering, this link will give you three options to give.

Sing – “Lion and the Lamb“

*Closed captioning (CC) is available

Verse 1
He's coming on the clouds, kings and kingdoms will bow down
And every chain will break, as broken hearts declare His praise
Who can stop the Lord Almighty?

Chorus
Our God is the Lion, the Lion of Judah
He's roaring with power and fighting our battles
And every knee will bow before You
Our God is the Lamb, the Lamb that was slain
For the sin of the world, His blood breaks the chains
And every knee will bow before the Lion and the Lamb
Oh every knee will bow before the Lion and the Lamb

Verse 2
So open up the gates, make way before the King of kings
Our God who calls the saved is here to set the captives free
Who can stop the Lord Almighty?

Bridge
Who can stop the Lord Almighty?
Who can stop the Lord?
Who can stop the Lord Almighty?
Who can stop the Lord? (No one)

Closing Prayer

~Feel free to use the following prayer or pray however you are led~

“Our Father in heaven,

hallowed be your name.

Your kingdom come,

your will be done,

on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread,

and forgive us our debts,

as we also have forgiven our debtors.

And lead us not into temptation,

but deliver us from evil.”

For yours is the kingdom,

and the power,

and the glory forever and ever.

Amen!

Matthew 6:9-13

Benediction

~The word benediction literally means “good (bene) speaking (dictio).” Close your service by speaking a good word to one another~

Jesus is moved with pity and full of compassion, and you never have to wonder.

Cookies & Coffee

~Have a cookie (especially all you little ones!) and engage in fellowship at a distance~

On Sunday we would typically walk over to the Commons after the service for cookies, coffee, and fellowship together. We miss that time!

While we are meeting online and encouraging social distancing to keep our community safe, let’s engage in fellowship from a distance. We encourage you to do a “social hour” with your friends from church by texting or calling them. Let’s stay connected!

Reflection / Sermon Application

~Feel free to do this now or after the service, and/or throughout the week~

Take a few minutes to reflect on the sermon. Consider how you might apply this lesson to your life in practical ways. We encourage you to engage with your family or call/text a friend from Redeemer to discuss the sermon application questions below:

  • When are you moved with pity or compassion?

  • What most often keeps you from being real with Jesus?

  • How can a passage like this help you be real with others?

  • What might it look like to follow Jesus’ lead from this passage with others?
