Sermon Series Title.png

Our Online Sunday Service is a way for us to gather together at the same time but in different locations throughout Whatcom county and the globe (hello and welcome to our missionary families!).

We invite you to share your experiences by using the hashtag: #RedeemerNWFamily on your social media platform of choice. This will help us interact with one another as a family on Facebook and Instagram. If you don’t have or use social media and want to share your images/videos, please email them to dane@redeemernw.org.

Call To Worship

~ Read out loud together ~

Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth!
Serve the Lord with gladness!
Come into his presence with singing!
Know that the Lord, he is God!
It is he who made us, and we are his;
we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.
Enter his gates with thanksgiving,
and his courts with praise!
Give thanks to him; bless his name!
For the Lord is good;
his steadfast love endures forever,
and his faithfulness to all generations.

Psalm 100

Sing – “Made Alive”

*Closed captioning (CC) is available

Verse 1
I once was dead in sin alone and hopeless
A child of wrath I walked
condemned in darkness
But Your mercy brought new life
and in Your love and kindness
Raised me up with Christ
and made me righteous

Chorus
You have bought me back with the riches of
Your amazing grace and relentless love
I'm made alive forever with You, life forever
By Your grace I'm saved, by Your grace I'm saved

Verse 2
Lord, You are the light that broke the darkness
You satisfy my soul when I am heartless
If ever I forget my true identity
Show me who I am and help me to believe

Bridge
My sin has been erased, I'll never be the same
My sin has been erased, I'll never be the same

Online Sermon - Friend of Sinners

Matthew 11:16-19

Sing - “What a Friend We Have in Jesus“

*Closed captioning (CC) is available

Verse 3
Blessed Savior, Thou hast promised
Thou wilt all our burdens bear;
May we ever, Lord, be bringing
All to Thee in earnest prayer.
Soon in glory bright, unclouded,
There will be no need for prayer
Rapture, praise, and endless worship
Will be our sweet portion there.

Tag
Oh, what peace we often forfeit
Oh, what needless pain we bear
All because we do not carry
Everything to God in prayer

Verse 1
What a friend we have in Jesus
All our sins and griefs to bear
And what a privilege to carry
Everything to God in prayer
Oh, what peace we often forfeit
Oh, what needless pain we bear
All because we do not carry
Everything to God in prayer

Verse 2
Have we trials and temptations?
Is there trouble anywhere?
You don’t have to be discouraged
Take it to the Lord in prayer
Can we find a friend so faithful
Who will all our sorrows share?
Jesus knows our every weakness
Take it to the Lord in prayer

Communion

~Those who trust Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior receive communion~

Every week we remember and retell the Gospel by receiving communion. The bread represents Jesus’ body given for us. The juice represents the blood He shed for our redemption.

Jesus said, “greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.” That’s exactly what Jesus did. He laid down His life for His friends; sorry sinners and stumbling saints. Jesus did it for you, me, and anyone who calls on the name of the Lord. Communion among many things is an opportunity to bring our true selves to Jesus and be reminded of our salvation in Him and our friendship with Him.

As you receive communion, consider repeating the words, “Jesus, You have shown the greatest love by laying down your life for me, your friend.

Giving

~An opportunity to worship God with our finances~

In response to God giving us Jesus, we give. This is a wonderful and important part of our worship. Take this time as an opportunity to thank God for your daily bread. Take time to connect your giving to what God is doing in and through the church community. Our hearts follow our treasure; may God use your giving to fuel your worship of Jesus.

While we are not publicly gathering, this link will give you three options to give.

Closing Prayer

~Feel free to use the following prayer or pray however you are led~

(A prayer from Scotty Smith)

Lord Jesus,

We long for the Day when knowing you in part will give way to knowing you as fully as redeemed creatures possibly can.

We crave the moment when seeing you will no longer require faith or imagination, or waiting or repentance. Hasten the Day, Lord; hasten the arrival of that all-limitations-lifting, whole-world-transforming Day. The Day we will see you as you are, and we will be made like you.

Everything we already know about you fills us with awe and worship; but there’s so much more to you. Jesus, we’re mere babes in the woods of gospel-wonder; neophyte prospectors in the mountains of grace-riches; children wearing water wings as we wade into the bottomless ocean of your greatness. Continue to open the eyes of our hearts to more of your beauty. Expand our capacity for marveling at you and loving you.

The joy from being pursued, known, and loved by the Creator of all things, is immeasurable. The delight born from knowing you gave your life for us—fulfilling the law, taking our judgment, and becoming our righteousness, is incomparable. And the elation we feel as we ponder your return—Bridegroom for his bride, Lover for his beloved, and Friend of sinners for chief sinners, is inexpressible.

Until that Day, keep us hungry and thirsty for yourself, Jesus. May our worthless idols topple under the weight of your glory. And may our broken cisterns remain broken and dry. There is life in you alone, and you alone are worthy.

So very Amen we pray, in your peerless and precious name.

Benediction

~The word benediction literally means “good (bene) speaking (dictio).” Close your service by speaking a good word to one another~

Jesus is a never-failing, never giving up, always available friend. Go this week in that grace.

Cookies & Coffee

~Have a cookie (especially all you little ones!) and engage in fellowship at a distance~

On Sunday we would typically walk over to the Commons after the service for cookies, coffee, and fellowship together. We miss that time!

While we are meeting online and encouraging social distancing to keep our community safe, let’s engage in fellowship from a distance. We encourage you to do a “social hour” with your friends from church by texting or calling them. Let’s stay connected!

Reflection / Sermon Application

~Feel free to do this now or after the service, and/or throughout the week~

Take a few minutes to reflect on the sermon. Consider how you might apply this lesson to your life in practical ways. We encourage you to engage with your family or call/text a friend from Redeemer to discuss the sermon application questions below:

  • Who do consider a really good friend?

  • Who does Jesus friend?

  • Why is it such good news Jesus befriends “tax collectors” and “sinners”?

  • What does friendship with Jesus mean?

  • What difference will Jesus being your friend make this week?
