ONLINE SERVICE

Sunday, AUGUST 9th

Sermon Series Title.png

Our Online Sunday Service is a way for us to gather together at the same time but in different locations throughout Whatcom county and the globe (hello and welcome to our missionary families!).

We invite you to share your experiences by using the hashtag: #RedeemerNWFamily on your social media platform of choice. This will help us interact with one another as a family on Facebook and Instagram. If you don’t have or use social media and want to share your images/videos, please email them to dane@redeemernw.org.

Opening Prayer

~ Use the following prayer adapted from Scotty Smith or pray as the Spirit leads ~

Oh, that our hunger for you would be as compelling as our hunger for every other culinary provision and pleasure; because no food “endures to eternal life” except the bread that you give. No water slakes the soul-thirst of our hearts like the living water you alone provide. No libation produces “joy unspeakable full of glory” like the new wine of your grace. No dessert is as sweet to the heart as the nectar of your love.

During this season of covid, renew our craving for the buffet of the gospel. Intensify our longings for the Day when we will feast together at the wedding feast of the Lamb. Ignite our hearts to sing with vigor, “Bread of heaven, feed me till I want no more!” To feast at the table you set is to enjoy the welcome of God and to be filled for eternity.

Help us as we seek your face, abide in your love, and gaze on your beauty in the coming weeks. May the gospel come alive to us, in profound and transforming ways. Intensify and satisfy our appetites as no other banquet can.

Because the Father has placed His seal of approval on You, we find our approval in You.

So very Amen, we pray, in your satisfying and all-sufficient Name.

Sing – “Come Thou Fount”

*Closed captioning (CC) is available

Verse 1
Come, Thou Fount of every blessing
Tune my heart to sing Thy grace
Streams of mercy, never ceasing
Call for songs of loudest praise
Teach me some melodious sonnet
Sung by flaming tongues above
Praise the mount, I'm fixed upon it
Mount of Thy redeeming love

Verse 2
Here I raise my Ebenezer
Here there by Thy great help I've come
And I hope, by Thy good pleasure
Safely to arrive at home
Jesus sought me when a stranger
Wandering from the fold of God
He, to rescue me from danger
Interposed His precious blood

Verse 3
Oh, to grace how great a debtor
Daily I'm constrained to be
Let that goodness like a fetter
Bind my wandering heart to Thee
Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it
Prone to leave the God I love
Here's my heart, oh, take and seal it
Seal it for Thy courts above

Outro
Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it
Prone to leave the God I love
Here's my heart, oh, take and seal it
Seal it for Thy courts above

Here's my heart, oh, take and seal it
Seal it for Thy courts above

Blessed Assurance

John 6.35-40

Sing - “Living Hope“

*Closed captioning (CC) is available

Chorus
Hallelujah, praise the One who set me free
Hallelujah, death has lost its grip on me
You have broken every chain
There's salvation in Your name
Jesus Christ, my living hope

Bridge
Then came the morning that sealed the promise
Your buried body began to breathe
Out of the silence, the Roaring Lion
Declared the grave has no claim on me
Then came the morning that sealed the promise
Your buried body began to breathe
Out of the silence, the Roaring Lion
Declared the grave has no claim on me
Jesus, Yours is the victory!

Verse 1
How great the chasm that lay between us
How high the mountain I could not climb
In desperation, I turned to heaven
And spoke Your name into the night
Then through the darkness, Your loving-kindness
Tore through the shadows of my soul
The work is finished, the end is written
Jesus Christ, my living hope

Verse 2
Who could imagine so great a mercy?
What heart could fathom such boundless grace?
The God of ages stepped down from glory
To wear my sin and bear my shame
The cross has spoken, I am forgiven
The King of kings calls me His own
Beautiful Savior, I'm Yours forever
Jesus Christ, my living hope

Communion

~Those who trust Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior receive communion~

Every week we remember and retell the Gospel by receiving communion. The bread represents Jesus’ body given for us. The juice represents the blood He shed for our redemption.

Jesus said, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger. And whoever believes in me shall never thirst.” Communion serves as a wonderful way to get Jesus’ Words more profoundly in our heads and our hearts. The Good News of the Gospel is not, “work your way to Jesus,” but simple, “come, believe.” Communion is a time to come to Jesus and say “I believe.”

As you receive communion, reflect on this truth: “Whoever comes to Jesus will never be cast out.” Bring your confessions of sin, including all the really big ones you might want to hide. Bring the repeated failures. Bring your worries. Bring your true self, and as you receive communion, consider repeating these words: “God’s love never quits.”

Giving

~An opportunity to worship God with our finances~

In response to God giving us Jesus, we give. This is a wonderful and important part of our worship. Take this time as an opportunity to thank God for your daily bread. Take time to connect your giving to what God is doing in and through the church community. Our hearts follow our treasure; may God use your giving to fuel your worship of Jesus.

While we are not publicly gathering, this link will give you three options to give.

Closing Prayer

~Feel free to use the following prayer from The Message Psalm 136, or pray however you are led~

Thank God! He deserves your thanks.
    His love never quits.
Thank the God of all gods,
    His love never quits.
Thank the Lord of all lords.
    His love never quits.

Thank the miracle-working God,
    His love never quits.
The God whose skill formed the cosmos,
    His love never quits.
The God who laid out earth on ocean foundations,
    His love never quits.
The God who filled the skies with light,
    His love never quits.
The sun to watch over the day,
    His love never quits.
Moon and stars as guardians of the night,
    His love never quits.

The God who struck down the Egyptian firstborn,
    His love never quits.
And rescued Israel from Egypt’s oppression,
    His love never quits.
Took Israel in hand with his powerful hand,
    His love never quits.
Split the Red Sea right in half,
    His love never quits.
Led Israel right through the middle,
    His love never quits.
Dumped Pharaoh and his army in the sea,
    His love never quits.

The God who marched his people through the desert,
    His love never quits.
Smashed huge kingdoms right and left,
    His love never quits.
Struck down the famous kings,
    His love never quits.
Struck Sihon the Amorite king,
    His love never quits.
Struck Og the Bashanite king,
    His love never quits.
Then distributed their land as booty,
    His love never quits.
Handed the land over to Israel.
    His love never quits.

God remembered us when we were down,
    His love never quits.
Rescued us from the trampling boot,
    His love never quits.
Takes care of everyone in time of need.
    His love never quits.
Thank God, who did it all!

    His love never quits!

In Jesus Name, Amen!!!

Benediction

~The word benediction literally means “good (bene) speaking (dictio).” Close your service by speaking a good word to one another~

Whoever comes to Jesus will never be cast off. God’s love never quits. Go in that blood bought promise of grace.

Cookies & Coffee

~Have a cookie (especially all you little ones!) and engage in fellowship at a distance~

On Sunday we would typically walk over to the Commons after the service for cookies, coffee, and fellowship together. We miss that time!

While we are meeting online and encouraging social distancing to keep our community safe, let’s engage in fellowship from a distance. We encourage you to do a “social hour” with your friends from church by texting or calling them. Let’s stay connected!

Reflection / Sermon Application

~Feel free to do this now or after the service, and/or throughout the week~

Take a few minutes to reflect on the sermon. Consider how you might apply this lesson to your life in practical ways. We encourage you to engage with your family or call/text a friend from Redeemer to discuss the sermon application questions below:

  • When do you feel most secure?

  • What do you believe about the doctrine “the perseverance of the saints?”

  • How would you summarize John 6.37?

  • What will Jesus’s promises to “never cast off” and to “lose nothing of all that the Father has given him” make in your life this week?

  • How can you use the truth of this text to encourage someone else?
